How disaster relief works

After a FEMA disaster declaration the IRS typically postpones filing and payment deadlines, under 26 U.S.C. 7508A, for taxpayers whose address of record is in the covered counties. The postponement reaches deadlines that fall on or after the disaster date and before the new date, including quarterly estimated payments, payroll returns, and extended returns. Penalty relief for late payroll deposits is usually limited to a short window after the disaster date. Read the release for the exact counties, dates, and forms.

Dates here are parsed from the IRS release titles. Where a title omits the year it is inferred from the release year and marked year inferred.
